The annual Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign is approaching the 50 per cent mark.
Executive Director Dave Brown said in four weeks, the campaign has raised $675,000 or 48 per cent of the $1.4 million goal.
"We're hopeful that this time next week we'll be at 50 per cent or better," said Brown. "So far being one month in, we're really very excited about how the campaign is going. It's still early innings, we still got a long way to go , but indicators look really positive."
He said they've also seen an increase in donors.
"Our direct mail is continuing to do well," said Brown. "We picked up more mail again today from over the weekend. That's largely from retirees and at home businesses, and it seems to be fairly strong as well. The number of people who donated online is up about 10 per cent from last year. The dollar value is about the same at $22,000."
Brown said while the campaign target is set at $1.4 million, the actual need is closer to $1.6 million.
A total of 17 local agencies receive funding from the United Way, including Lambton Elderly Outreach, Sarnia-Lambton Rebound and River City Vineyard.
