One child was taken to hospital after a mishap on a ride at the Brigden Fall Fair.
The incident happened just after 1 p.m. Friday involving the Bulgy the Whales ride operated by World's Finest Shows midway.
Moore Agricultural Society Spokesperson Dennis Robinson said the children's ride was one of 17 rides at the fairgrounds this year.
"They are inspected on an annual basis and then at each site they sometimes get inspected," said Robinson. "It's a mechanical failure. When you consider the number of rides, the number of times they are used and compare that to the number of vehicles going up and down the road, they have to be maintained and they have to be inspected, and it's unfortunate that it broke at Brigden."
Robinson said the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) is investigating the incident.
"We're happy that it's being monitored, there's an investigation and we're just so thankful that nobody was hurt seriously," said Robinson.
He said over 35,000 people walked through the gates at the fairgrounds over the four days.
"You can dress for the temperature but when it's wet underfoot it's not the greatest," he said. "But they came out, they enjoyed and had a good time."
Robinson said this year they made use of all the space available.
"We added quite a few more vendors, opened up a new roadway, expanded so that you're not so congested," he said. "COVID taught us one thing, spread out. We own 90 acres, use it all, and that was for parking, for vendors and for rides and to showcase Lambton County."
Robinson said the Thanksgiving tradition is a year-round labour of love for countless volunteers. He said plans are already in the works for next year, and the theme is set to be 'Country Roots and Rubber Boots'.
