The Town of Petrolia is mourning the loss of a former councillor and reeve.
Chief Administration Officer/Treasurer Rick Charlebois said in a news release Wednesday that John "Doug" Inglis has died.
"Petrolia has lost a proud community member, known for his writing, and his 'In My Opinion' column in the Petrolia Topic, for his passion for curling, teaching, coaching, and all things L.C.C.V.I. Lancers," Charlebois said.
"Mr. Inglis served as a councillor from 1978 - 1982 on the council for the Town of Petrolia, and as reeve from 1982 - 1985. He was also known for his role as a board member for the Sarnia-Lambton Children’s Aid Society from 1982 - 1991," he added.
The flag at the municipal office has been lowered to half mast as a tribute to Inglis' service.
Inglis was described as a "proud Lancer" in his obituary.
"He taught history, geography, and law at L.C.C.V.I. for 34 years from 1964 to 1998. He coached junior football, hockey, and his favourite, curling," it read.
Inglis died at C.E.E. Hospital in Petrolia on Sunday, August 20, at the age of 80.
