Arsonist dealt hefty fine in Sarnia court

A Point Edward woman will serve her sentence at home for deliberately setting fire to an apartment building over two years ago.

Anne Epstein received a conditional sentence of two years less a day in Sarnia court on Tuesday, and 18 months probation.

She was also ordered to pay just under $145,000 in restitution for the blaze at Huron View Apartments on the afternoon of May 8, 2021.

Epstein was originally charged with arson-disregard for human life, but pleaded guilty in March to a lesser charge of arson-damage to property.

No injuries were reported in the fire.
