Old favourites and new activities are being highlighted with registration for fall and winter activities at the Strangway Centre opening this week.
Activities Programmer Mike Neely said it's their busiest time of the year.
"So, it's programming that will be from September 2023 until the end of March 2024 with the registration opening on Tuesday, August 22 at 8:30 a.m.," said Neely. "That can be done online, over the phone, or in person at the Strangway Community Centre."
Neely believes there is something to suit everyone's interest.
"From fitness and wellness programs, like exercise programs, yoga, meditation," he said. "We even have our arts and culture section with language classes, different hobbies and special interests for people if they want to do any of our drop in programs... card games, shuffleboard, carpet bowling, all sorts of different things."
Neely is looking forward to having citizens return to the centre.
"We partnered back with Pathways therapeutic pool to do aqua energy. We'll have a new functional fitness program, floral workshops and expand on our list of day trips that we're going to be offering as well." he said.
Indoor leagues, such as pickleball, badminton, basketball and volleyball are other popular choices.
Neely said they have been successful in attracting younger adults to some programming.
"With the fact that right now we offer some evening programs on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, it allows for those individuals of the younger demographic to attend certain programs. I've even seen in some of the yoga's we've got a bit of a younger crew for some of those. Social media and that sort of thing has helped as well and made people aware that the centre does exist here right in Sarnia," said Neely.
The programs are open to adults 20 years and older.
