Corunna's Drouin joining Indiana University hall of fame

Corunna's gold-medal winning high jumper is being recognized by his alma mater.

Derek Drouin, 33, will be inducted into the Indiana University (IU) Athletics Hall of Fame on September 22.

In a media release, the school said Drouin is one of the most decorated student-athletes in IU Track and Field history.

During his time at IU, from 2010 to 2013, Drouin became the first student athlete to ever win five NCAA high jump titles, he won seven Big Ten titles, was a seven-time All-American, and a three-time IU Male Athlete of the Year.

In 2013, Drouin won the Bowerman Award as college track and field's top performer, regardless of event, as well as the Jesse Owens Big Ten Male Athlete of the Year.

Drouin won a gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. His bronze medal win at the 2012 Olympics in London was later upgraded to a silver. The Olympian pulled out of the Tokyo Olympic trials in 2021.

Drouin is one of six IU athletes that make up the Hall of Fame Class of 2023. The list, announced Tuesday, includes Aleksey Korol, Christina Loukas, Tina McCall-Waters, George McGinnis, and Dr. Larry Rink.
