Captain Kidd Days marks 38 years this weekend

Four days of fun and fundraising gets underway Thursday in Corunna. It's Captain Kidd Days.

The outdoor event kicks off with Mainstreet Credit Union Canada Movie Night with Super Mario Bros on the big screen at dusk.

The fun begins at 7 p.m. with face painting, Captain Corbin the Magical Pirate and the Elite Star Dance Academy.

Event Chair Geoff Dale said the four day event has something for everyone to enjoy including a kid zone and fireworks.

"We have three sports tournaments going on," said Dale. "We have a two-pitch tournament with 12 teams, volleyball has 12 teams and ball hockey has 25 teams. We have a talent show on Friday night, entertainment each night, mostly local bands but on Sunday night we have a Garth Brooks and Shania Twain tribute act coming in."

Captain Kidd Days started in 1985 by local merchants in Corunna and funds raised go back into the community.

"We traditionally get between 4,000 and 5,000 people out over the weekend so we're expecting somewhere around that," said Dale. "We're hoping with nice weather in the forecast that it's well attended."

The traditional parade is set for 11 a.m. Saturday starting at Thompson Gardens off Beckwith Street.
