A Sarnia man accused of pointing a gun at a stranger's head is facing several charges.
On Wednesday, Sarnia police were called to the area of Ferry Dock Hill following an interaction between two men.
Police said the victim, a local resident, was fishing when another man approached him and attempted to initiate an unsolicited conversation. When the victim would not engage, the man suddenly produced a handgun and allegedly pointed it directly at the victim’s head.
Police said following a short exchange, the man with the gun fled the area. The victim did not receive any physical injuries.
The service's Street Crime Unit was called in and was quickly able to identify and arrest a suspect.
Police said the accused, 39-year-old Edward Lee Oliver, was already subject to a release order for multiple previous charges, including conditions to not possess any firearms (or imitations of firearms).
Oliver is charged with failing to comply with a release order, pointing a firearm, possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, and assault with a weapon. Police said the weapon in this offence had not been recovered.
Oliver was held in custody for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.
