This summer, local residents can have a cold one in support of the United Way.
Executive Director Dave Brown said Black Gold's popular Liquid Gold Cream Ale has been rebranded with United Way logos and messaging for a limited time only.
"This is a big benefit for the United Way in two ways," said Brown. "Number one, we will be receiving 50 cents from every can sold and we also get 50 cents from each glass sold. But in addition to that, the cans are branded with United Way messaging and logos so we're hoping to get some promotion of the United Way campaign all summer long leading into this year's drive."
The annual fundraising campaign officially kicks off in September with the Day of Caring.
Brown said the summertime promotion is a first for the local United Way.
"This idea came to us from the United Way of Oxford in Woodstock," he said. "They had done it a couple years with a local brewery, so I took the idea, very similar to what they were doing to Black Gold. They loved the idea and then they just kept spitballing more and more ideas making it even better, and then their marketing department put together the can and I guess the rest is history."
The "United Way" beer is available at the Black Gold Brewery on Fletcher Street in Petrolia and at several local restaurants and bars including John's Restaurant in Sarnia and Los Puntos Cantina in Point Edward.
You can also pre-order the specialty beer through the United Way website.
