Sarnia council has directed staff to explore the feasibility of using existing employees to fill a gap when it comes to the environment.
Rather than looking into hiring an ecologist, staff will look into whether a current staff member could fill the need.
Staff will report back to council at a later date.

Sarnia city staff will be crafting a policy surrounding the use of shipping containers on commercial, residential and city property.
Right now, they're only permitted on property that is zoned industrial.
Mayor Mike Bradley said any fee system should be simple and small.

It would allow for the installation of a pedestrian crossing at Mike Weir Park.
On Monday, city council voted to table the motion and gather public feedback on the proposal.

Sarnia council endorsed the formation of a project team with the Sarnia Police Service to explore options for the sustainable provision of police facilities, pursuant to the Police Service Act. The city treasurer and facilities manager will be appointed to be the project team.

The Sarnia Sting will be in charge of the Community Suite at Progressive Auto Sales arena for the 2023-24 season.
Sarnia council voted on the change at its meeting on Monday.
It will allow for the timely intake and processing of interested non-profit organizations for the upcoming campaign.
Staff will further engage with the OHL team to develop an a agreement for the administration of the Community Suite, including reporting requirements for the 2023-2024 season.

Council approved a $2.5 million contract to Van Bree Drainage and Bulldozing for the separation of combined sewers on Russell, Palmerston and Green streets.
The project, scheduled to begin next month, also includes new gutters, sidewalks and water, storm and sanitary services.
