A major reconstruction project in Grand Bend is in the works.
Although it may be a couple of years away still, the municipality is hoping to get the public's input on the River Road project.
Lambton Shores Chief Administrative Office (CAO) Steve McAuley said there is an open house from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the Grand Bend Legion.
"The purpose of the meeting is to really get the public's input on the design and redesign of River Road in Grand Bend," said McAuley. "We've done a preliminary design that has new sidewalks and some new parking areas and things like that. So, the purpose is to kind of roll that preliminary design out and get feedback from the public on what they think of it."
One of the primary goals of the project is to improve pedestrian safety.
"One of the primary concerns staff have is pedestrian safety on that road and the new construction will include a proper sidewalk all the way down the road basically to the marina," said McAuley.
McAuley said a timeline and cost for the project have not yet been finalized.
"At this point we don't have a specific start date," he said. "We'll have to finalize the design, finalize our cost estimates and then at some point work it into a capital budget, so we expect it may be a few years away."
For those unable to attend Monday's open house, materials will be posted on the municipality's website for comment.
