Michigan Line bridge rehabilitation work begins

A section of Michigan Line will be closed to through traffic for the next few months to accommodate bridge rehabilitation work over Perch Creek.

The Michigan Line bridge rehabilitation project will begin on June 15, at which point, the roadway will be closed to through traffic from Telfer Road to Brigden Road.

The detour route for through traffic to go around is Telfer Road to Bridgen Road to Lakeshore Road.

Local traffic will still be able to use the road, but motorists will not be able to travel across the bridge while the project is underway.

"If you're a homeowner living on either stretch of that road, you'd either access from Telfer [Road] or Brigden [Road] based on what side of the bridge you're on," said Communication Manager for the City of Sarnia Steve Henschel.

Work will include the full removal and replacement of asphalt, expansion joint replacement, concrete repairs, bridge deck waterproofing, and the installation of new guard rails and new approach slabs.

The project is expected to be completed by September 29.

Henschel said the city apologizes for an inconvenience this may cause for area residents and motorists while the bridge is updated.

The total project is estimated to cost $865,000.
