Petrolia council member Joel Field will continue to support the community as Mayor Brad Loosley continues to focus on a medical issue.
Town officials confirmed Monday evening that Field will remain as acting mayor for an extended period of time, while Mayor Loosley addresses his health concerns.
Field was appointed the position by his peers on the recommendation of Loosley back in April when the mayor first took his leave. Council came to the same decision again during a closed session meeting Monday.
The Town of Petrolia, through a by-law, has a schedule of acting mayors that rotate in two-month periods. For Loosley's leave, council said it approved an appointed acting mayor for the rest of the year, continuing the tradition of support for the community and providing a clear point of contact.
"We thank residents for continuing to contact Acting Mayor Joel Field with items that would otherwise be directed to Mayor R. Brad Loosley during this approved time," read a statement from the municipality. "Councillor Field continues to be humbled by this appointment and the trust of Mayor Loosley and his fellow council members and is honoured to continue to serve the Town of Petrolia in this capacity."
No other details about Loosley's health have been disclosed by the municipality. It is not clear when he will return to his post however, the town said it wishes him the best and looks forward to his return.
