The essential work done by paramedics in Lambton County is being recognized this week.
Lambton Emergency Medical Services Manager Stephen Turner said it's Paramedic Services Week in Canada.
"This year’s theme is “Diversity in Paramedicine'," Turner said. "So we're looking at the diversity amongst the profession, the providers, the evolution of the profession -- so the skills that we provide in the community -- and most importantly the people that we serve."
Turner said they're honoured to have the spotlight shone upon them this week.
"The past few years have been very difficult for all healthcare providers and paramedics are no exception to that. The pandemic actually has been fascinating because it's kind of highlighted our role and really grown our role within the broader health sector. We're starting to be seen as a bit more of a swiss army knife in the health sector, through our work in assessment centers and testing and vaccine delivery throughout COVID-19," Turner added.
He said they're going to try to keep the praise on local staff this week because the team is so dedicated to the residents and visitors of Lambton County.
"We have about 160 full and part-time paramedics. They're deployed through nine stations in the community and we have 11 ambulances that run throughout the day across the county," he said.
Warden Kevin Marriott shared the sentiment that we "owe our paramedics a debt of gratitude for the work they do to keep our communities safe.
"We’re fortunate to be served by such a dedicated team of professionals," Marriott said.
