Habitat for Humanity Sarnia-Lambton is receiving national recognition.
The local non-profit organization was one of 11 Habitat for Humanity chapters across the country to receive an award at Habitat for Humanity Canada's national conference held earlier this week in Winnipeg.
The Sarnia-Lambton chapter received the Expanded Impact award for its Handyman Program.
The program expanded its reach in 2022, providing home repairs to seniors, including low-income seniors, to allow them to stay in their homes for years to come.
Last year, Habitat Sarnia-Lambton assisted 411 families with repairs, an increase of 89 per cent. Half of those families were from low-income households.
The local organization was also recognized for the introduction of a youth build program, partnered with the Chippewas of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation to build four on-Nation homes.
