The Sarnia Sting gave up a late power play goal in a 3-1 loss in London Sunday afternoon, and now trail the OHL Western Conference final 2-0.
The Knights scored the game-winning goal with about three-and-a-half minutes to play, and then added an empty-netter in the final minute. All four goals in the game were scored in the third period.
London's Easton Cowan opened the scoring at 2:21 of the final frame, his fourth of the postseason. Sarnia's Ethan Ritchie responded at 12:34 with his second goal of the playoffs.
With under four minutes to play, Sting defenceman Ethan Del Mastro was handed a two-minute penalty for boarding. On the ensuing power play, at 16:28, London's Logan Mailloux fired home his fifth goal to give the home side a 2-1 lead. Knights forward Ryan Winterton put home an empty net goal with 32 seconds remaining to seal the win.
Sting netminder Ben Gaudreau made 25 saves in the game. Knights starting goaltender Brett Brochu was replaced late in the second period and did not return after going down awkwardly -- Brochu turned away all 18 shots he faced, while backup Zach Bowen made eight saves in relief.
Sarnia has scored just two goals through the first two games of the series after averaging 4.1 goals a game coming into the conference championship.
