Fundraising committee raises over $2M for new complex

Signage will soon be displayed at the recently unveiled East Lambton Community Complex (ELCC) after the fundraising committee surpassed its $2 million goal.

The group raised a total of $2,097,949 in 14 months for the multi-purpose facility, which was completed in October 2022.

Committee Co-Chair Rhonda Noll thanked community members for their support, and said it feels great to reach this accomplishment.

Noll said signage will be posted outside of the rooms that were sponsored by large donors.

"We've already decided on what the layout will look like so that it's consistent throughout the facility," said Noll. "We're still working on the timing of the signage... everything's kind of delayed."

Noll said she hopes the displays will be ready by June or July, at which point, an unveiling ceremony will be held with local dignitaries.

“I want to sincerely congratulate and thank the committee members on reaching their $2 million goal,” said Mayor Todd Case in a statement. “Our community and council are so thankful for your efforts. On behalf of council, I would also like to thank all donors who contributed to this project, what great support.”

Warwick Township council voted in favour of renewing the Watford Community Arena and Watford Centennial Hall in 2020 and initially agreed to contribute $11.5 million, but work came in under budget.

The project included the addition of a new gymnasium, a banquet hall with a new state-of-the-art kitchen and bar, a multi-purpose room, YMCA fitness facility, lounge area, outdoor kitchen, and upgrades to the existing arena.
