The new gymnasium at Lambton College will be filled with bright young minds this weekend.
The 2023 Lambton County Science Fair is being held, showcasing a wide range of projects done by students between Grade 3 and Grade 12.
Spokesperson Peter Smith says 2023 marks 50 years since incorporation, but only the 49th fair since then.
"Due to COVID there was no fair in 2020," said Smith. "We know that the fair started much earlier than 1973, but we don’t have any records going back that far."
Participant sign in and set up is Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Judging will be held Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
An awards ceremony will be held Saturday at 1 p.m.
In 2022, five students advanced from the local science fair to the national event.
St. Patrick's Catholic High School student Annabelle Rayson received the Best Project: Discovery award.
Rayson went on to win the top prize at an international water awards ceremony in Stockholm for her project Plankton Wars: An Innovative Analysis of Daphnia Genotype Biomanipulation for Algae Bloom Prevention.
