Tornado drill to sound off in Michigan

Sarnia-Lambton residents may hear sirens from across the St. Clair River on Wednesday as Michigan holds a statewide tornado drill.

The drill is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Outdoor sirens in St. Clair County, Michigan will sound for three minutes in order to test the warning network.

"Severe weather can strike at any time. It is important that everyone be prepared to act when alerts are issued," read a media release from the County of St. Clair. "This is an excellent opportunity for families, schools, and businesses to review and practice their emergency plans and readiness for severe weather."

The week of March 19 also marks Severe Weather Awareness Week.

In the case of an actual tornado, residents are advised to seek safe shelter immediately, away from windows and doors, and to watch for flying debris. The U.S. government's "Ready" website includes tips on how to stay safe in severe weather.
