Sting down Rangers for fifth straight win

The Sarnia Sting have now won five straight games following a 5-1 win in Kitchener Tuesday night.

Defenceman Ethan Ritchie scored two goals in the final frame, Sasha Pastujov had a goal and two assists, and Sting goaltender Ben Gaudreau made 22 saves for the win.

The Rangers opened the scoring less than a minute into the game and led 1-0 after 20 minutes.

Sting forward Nolan Burke got his team on the board at 2:16 of the second, a power play marker and his team-leading 29th goal of the season. Less than a minute later, at 3:09 of the middle frame, Luca Del Bel Belluz gave Sarnia a 2-1 lead. The former Mississauga Steelhead now has nine points in nine games with the Sting.

Just over seven minutes into the third period, Kitchener's Francesco Pinelli was given a five-minute major penalty for cross checking. On the ensuing man advantage, Ritchie fired home his first of two power play goals in the period to make it 3-1. Pastujov added another insurance marker at 15:09 before Ritchie capped off the period with his 10th goal of the season at 18:33.

Sarnia's power play went 3 for 4 on the night. Kitchener was 0 for 2 with the man advantage.

With the win, the Sting are now 24-14-4-2 on the season, good enough for fourth in the OHL's Western Conference.

Sarnia will go for their sixth straight win against the visiting Soo Greyhounds Friday night -- coverage on CHOK (1070 A.M./103.9 F.M.) begins at 6:30 p.m.
