A local foundation called #charitable is hosting its first charity sweepstakes in an effort to fund initiatives, which ultimately support the community through non-profit organizations.
The foundation is a citizen-led charity.
Executive Director Rich Bouchard said the board wanted to launch "Charity Sweeps" as a way to feature local businesses and support #charitable's various initiatives.
"We're looking to raise funds for the #charitable foundation so we can continue to provide fundraising initiatives for local charities at no cost to them," said Bouchard.
A couple of the initiatives #charitable organizes include Race to Erase and Polar Plunge for Empower Play.
For a chance to win one of three prize packages, valued at a total of $4,000, residents can make a donation online at three different price options.
"The prize boards are built up of gift certificates and gift cards from local independent businesses," Bouchard said.
The charity sweepstakes will feature about 40 local businesses, ranging from restaurants, garden nurseries, and bookstores.
Winners will be announced on February 28 and will be contacted by RAVEN5, a marketing agency separate from #charitable.
The foundation works alongside #local, which is a for-profit organization that promotes local businesses. Bouchard said the idea for #charitable started with Race to Erase.
"We incorporated in 2021 just to formalize all the work we've been doing. So this really stems from our work with Race to Erase fundraising event that we've been hosting since 2006 in the community," he said. "We want to continue to do Race to Erase but we also want to do a number of other charitable initiatives and work with other charities."
