Lambton College is on the final stretch of completing a makeover to its main entrance.
Senior Director of Community Engagement Diana Forbes said the doors, which once welcomed most students and staff, have been closed for much of the pandemic.
"Construction, of what was formerly known as the bridge entrance, has been underway for a couple of years and we're really expanding the front entrance to make it a two storey entryway," said Forbes. "We're doing construction on the bridge itself, it will also make way for a lounge and study space on the first and second floor."
Forbes said a new retail space will be featured.
"The really big development there is our campus shop with all of our branded gear for athletics, and Lambton College, and the book shop will all be brand new and right in the front doors of the bridge entrance."
A new front reception, washrooms, and classrooms are also planned in the space.
"I would say we're over 70 per cent of the way complete. We're anticipating opening that entrance back up and welcoming the community back in by spring 2023."
Forbes said the project, like many others over the past few years, experienced delays.
"The pandemic did have an effect on labour and demand in some construction materials. So, the timeline has been adjusted a few times. But, we're really happy with the timeline that we have now and things have been moving really quickly over the last couple of months."
In the meantime, Forbes said students and staff will continue using other entrances until the work is complete.
