Officers were called to an address on Petrolia Line, at around 1:50 a.m.
When officers arrived at the residence, they found the suspect who was taken into custody.
The man is charged with break and enter and resisting a peace officer.
He was being held in custody following a bail hearing.
Alan Smith will begin his new role with the municipality on July 20.
