The Sarnia Sting fell to the Kingston Frontenacs 5-3 Friday night, ending the Sting's three-game winning streak to begin 2023.
Frontenacs forward Nathan Poole had a goal and two assists and Duncan Schneider scored his first OHL goal, the game-winner, early in the third period.
Poole opened the scoring for the home-side at 8:29 of the first period. Sting defenceman Ethan Del Mastro responded with a power play goal at 15:31, his first goal since joining Sarnia. The Frontenacs retook the lead 18:10 and were up 2-1 after 20 minutes.
Sting forward Zach Filak evened the game at twos at 1:36 of the second period, another power play goal. Just 20 seconds later, Ryan Mast put Sarnia on top with his second goal of the season. Kingston tied the game at 4:52 to make it 3-3 heading into the third period.
Schneider put the Frontenacs back on top at 3:31 of the third period on a wrist shot from the blueline. Kingston added an empty-netter with a minute to play to seal the win.
Sting goaltender Ben Gaudreau made 23 saves in his second game back from the World Juniors. Kingston netminder Ivan Zhigalov made 19 saves on 22 shots.
