Celebration of Lights comes down as planning begins for 2023 holidays

Celebration of Lights displays will be taken down and stored away this weekend until the next holiday season rolls around.

About 100 volunteers are needed for the community teardown on Saturday. Registration will begin at 9 a.m., behind the Agora staging area at Centennial Park.

Board Chair Dean Holtz said roughly four to five trucks and trailers will also be needed in order to take displays to the storage units at Sandrin Services.

Holtz said if they have a good turnout, the teardown process should take about three to four hours.

Students can earn volunteer hours by participating in the teardown, however, those under the age of 18 must now be accompanied by an adult.

"It doesn't need to be a one to one ratio," he said. "We just want to make sure there is an adult who's going to take responsibility for the minors who are there."

Light displays went up in November and the traditional opening ceremonies were held for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

"Our opening ceremonies came together extremely well. In my opinion, it was probably one of the best opening ceremonies we've had," Holtz said.

He estimates there were about 4,000 people at the event.

Holtz said donations will be collected throughout the year as they plan ahead for the 2023 holiday season and organizers will be reaching out to sponsors in the near future.
