There were fewer building permits issued by Sarnia City Hall last year, but construction activity in terms of dollar value is up.
In December, 22 permits were issued for a total of just over $5.8 million. The largest was $1.9 million for a manufacturing/warehouse building on Plank Road.
A permit for $1.7 million dollars was also issued for hydro and water service upgrades at Bluewater Health.
That brings the total for the year to 534 permits worth $172.1 million. The permits are lagging behind 2021's total of 603, however the dollar volume is up by nearly $35 million from $137 million.
Permits for single-family homes ended the year behind 2021's pace. There was one permit issued in December for a yearly total of 72, compared to 96 the year before.
