Construction activity in Sarnia slowed down in 2022

There were fewer building permits issued by Sarnia City Hall last year, but construction activity in terms of dollar value is up.

In December, 22 permits were issued for a total of just over $5.8 million. The largest was $1.9 million for a manufacturing/warehouse building on Plank Road.

A permit for $1.7 million dollars was also issued for hydro and water service upgrades at Bluewater Health.

That brings the total for the year to 534 permits worth $172.1 million. The permits are lagging behind 2021's total of 603, however the dollar volume is up by nearly $35 million from $137 million.

Permits for single-family homes ended the year behind 2021's pace. There was one permit issued in December for a yearly total of 72, compared to 96 the year before.
