Several alleged drunk drivers arrested over the weekend

The first weekend of the new year kept police busy with impaired drivers, one of which is accused of falling asleep behind the wheel at a drive-thru restaurant in Sarnia.

Employees at a London Road restaurant called police Sunday morning, shortly after 2 a.m., to report a suspected impaired driver. A 21-year-old Sarnia resident was taken back to police headquarters and allegedly tested over twice the legal limit.

Also on Sunday, city police were contacted about a vehicle that was reportedly driving "all over the roadway" on Wellington Street at around 5:40 p.m. The vehicle was later stopped on Devine Street and the driver was taken back to police headquarters for testing.

A 27-year-old Sarnia man allegedly had over four times the legal limit of alcohol in his system and was charged as a result.

On Saturday, at around 2:20 a.m., Sarnia police stopped a vehicle after the driver allegedly failed to properly stop at a red light on Indian Road. Police said the driver, a 62-year-old Sarnia man, was over twice the legal limit.

Meanwhile, a 36-year-old Sarnia man was charged with impaired driving offences after he was stopped by Middlesex OPP on Monday.

The driver was stopped in the area of Egremont Drive and Ilderton Road in Middlesex Centre after OPP was contacted about a traffic complaint at around 12:25 a.m.

All of the drivers listed above were each charged with one count of operation while impaired by alcohol and one count of having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.
