Christmas tree collection in the City of Sarnia gets underway on Monday.
Residents can put them out to the curb this week to have them collected.
Communications Manager Steve Henschel said it's important to ensure that the tree is ready and prepared to be picked up.
"Obviously we only accept real trees, so no fake trees going out to the curb," said Henschel. "You also want to make sure that any decorations, tinsel, lights, stands and everything is removed from the tree. It can't be painted or wrapped in a bag, it has to be just the tree out there. That's because we recycle the trees by mulching them. We're not sending them to the landfill, we're taking that more environmentally-friendly option."
You're asked not to put trees out until after 6 p.m. the night before your regular garbage collection day, and no later than 7 a.m. the day of.
It's not an issue at the moment, but trees buried under snow won't be picked up, so it's important to make sure they're placed on top of snow banks.
