The Sarnia Sting's annual Christmas sweater game provided little holiday cheer for roughly 3,000 fans at the Hive Sunday afternoon.
The Sting were outshot 37 to 19 in a 4-1 loss to the Peterborough Petes, Sarnia's sixth loss in eight games.
The Sting got off to a hot start when forward Zach Filak made it 1-0 less than three minutes into the first period. Peterborough responded at 5:34, and the game was tied at ones after 20 minutes.
The Petes took a 2-1 lead at 8:33 of the second period on a short-handed goal from Tucker Robertson. The road team added insurance markers at 13:22 of the middle frame and 9:17 of the third period.
Sarnia's power play went 0 for 7 in the game. Goaltender Nicholas Surzycia turned away 33 shots.
The loss drops the Sting's record to 14-10-4-2 on the season, which puts them in sixth in the OHL's Western Conference.
The hockey club launched its annual Christmas Jersey Auction, in support of the Inn of the Good Shepherd, following Sunday's game.
