Sarnia police are hoping for a peaceful All Hallows' Eve as children go trick-or-treating Monday evening.
Cst. John Sottosanti said trick-or-treaters are encouraged to wear bright clothing to make sure they're seen by drivers.
"Also avoid crossing the street back and forth, try to follow the sidewalk, up and down the driveways," he said.
Motorists should also be on the lookout for trick-or-treaters, and slow down.
It's recommended that parents or guardians accompany young children on Halloween and check collected candy before it's consumed.
"Make sure that it is all safe and wrapped, both in regards to drugs but also more so just to make sure the candy itself is safe and not contaminated by any means," said Sottosanti.
Some red flags when checking candy are broken or damaged wrappers, and loose packaging.
Sottosanti said Sarnia is "pretty fortunate" in that officers don't typically receive many calls for service on Halloween.
