Inn of the Good Shepherd prepares for winter season

It may be October, but The Inn of the Good Shepherd is already gearing up for the holiday season.

The organization's Holiday Cash Calendar fundraiser is underway.

Executive Director Myles Vanni said the fundraiser has been held for about 10 years and always sells out.

"We generally will raise about $30,000 from the cash calendar. All of that is going to help our programs, the food bank, soup kitchen, and shelter," said Vanni.

Over the past few years, Vanni said tickets have sold out in early December. Five-hundred tickets have been added to this year's fundraiser for a total of 4,500.

Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased online or at various business locations. Daily cash prizes will begin in January 2023 and there will be a bonus draw on February 24, 2023.

Meanwhile, with freezing temperatures expected soon, there is a need for winter items.

Coats, hats, boots, and other winter gear can be donated to the Inn at its office John Street Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. After hours, items can be dropped off at The Good Shepherd’s Lodge on Confederation Street.

Vanni said items for all ages are always needed. A call was put out on Facebook last week, specifying a need for men's winter coats and boots.
