Joan Spalding celebrating 50 years of music

A Lambton County singer-songwriter is celebrating her golden anniversary in the music industry Saturday.

An event is being held at the Wyoming Legion to help Joan Spalding mark the special milestone.

In December 2020, Spalding, affectionately referred to as the ‘First Lady of Bluewater Country', was recognized as an “unsung heroes” of the COVID pandemic.

She became a fixture in hundreds of homes, doing Facebook Live performances from her home in Plympton-Wyoming, every day for over two years, in an effort to provide the joy of music during trying times.

The Mooretown native said she was born to perform.

“As a child I watched my aunts, uncles, and dad play music,” said Spalding. “I learned how to play rhythm guitar at the young age of 11 and had already been playing piano years before that.”

The self-taught singer-songwriter also plays double-reed harmonica, banjo and mandolin.

Doors to the event, 'Celebrating 50 years of music with Joan Spalding,' open at 6 p.m.

Music, stories and special guests begin at 7 p.m.

Admission is $5 with proceeds going to St. Joseph's Hospice.
