Sting swap forwards with Generals

The Sarnia Sting and Oshawa Generals are swapping forwards.

The Sting have traded Ryder McIntyre to Oshawa in exchange for Cooper Way and an 8th round pick in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection.

Way, a 19-year-old native of Waterloo, has five goals and four assists in 76 career OHL games with the Generals.

Sting General Manager Dylan Seca said Way is a 6'3" power forward who has the size and physicality that becomes more important as the season progresses.

"He’s been a key part of the Oshawa penalty kill and has been counted on for late faceoffs," said Seca in a media release. "Cooper is a leader both on and off the ice, works in the gym and is an excellent student, and he is a player we have been looking to add for quite some time. We welcome Cooper and the Way family to the Sting organization."

McIntyre, 18, has recorded four goals and five assists over 63 regular season games with the Sting. The Stoufville native was originally selected by the Sting in the 3rd round of the 2020 OHL Draft.

Seca said McIntyre is a player who is looking for more opportunity, and the hockey club feels this trade provides that.

“Ryder has been a great member of our organization and we wish him nothing but the best in the future.”

The Sting take on the Flint Firebirds Friday night in Sarnia. Coverage on CHOK (1070 A.M/103.9 F.M) begins at 6:30 p.m.
