The 2022 Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign is over a third of the way there.
Executive Director Dave Brown said so far $594,000 has been raised, or 36 per cent of the $1.65 million needs target.
He said about 1,275 people have contributed to this year's campaign.
"I think people want to know how and where their dollars are being used," said Brown. "So, I like to get out to talk to as many donors as possible, to talk to them about the local programs and services that need our funding in order to continue to provide the services they do in our community.
The local United Way funds 17 agencies providing over 31 programs and services to the community, specifically in three target areas, From Poverty to Possibility, All That Kids Can Be and Healthy People-Strong Communities.
"We know that people want to support local programs and services, we see that with supporting local businesses and what not, so charitable giving is a great example," said Brown. "In our community, we're seeing the effects of poverty more than we ever have before. So we're funneling more and more of our funding into poverty reduction strategies, such as the Inn of the Good Shepherd, Salvation Army, a warming shelter at Walpole Island and we support the River City Vineyard."
