Library Month celebrated at local facilities

The County of Lambton is celebrating Canadian Library Month with several planned events throughout October.

Emily Bisson, community engagement and communications supervisor with the county's Cultural Services Division, said there is also a scavenger hunt with prizes up for grabs.

Library card holders can download an app called Beanstack in order to participate in the "Love Your Library Scavenger Hunt."

"If you complete five things on the scavenger hunt -- and these are all things you could do for free with your library card, whether it be take out a book, attend a program, do an online course, et cetera -- you can go to your local library and pick up a prize," said Bisson. "If you do five things plus read some books, whether online or physical books, you can be entered into a chance to win a [$100] Amazon gift card."

Further details about the scavenger hunt can be found by clicking here.

Bisson said many people have switched to online services during the pandemic so they're encouraging residents to return to physical library spaces.

In addition to October being Canadian Library Month, the third week  of October 16- 22 is recognized as Ontario Public Library Week.

Some of the events this month will be held at the Sarnia Library, where residents can drop-in.

On October 20, Lambton County Archives will showcase the history of public libraries in Lambton County dating back to the 1820s. On Saturday, October 22, a dress up day will be held for kids from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.

"We're encouraging kids to come to the Sarnia Library and dress up as their favourite book character. Someone from The Painted Cat will be there, painting faces to match their costume, there's story time, greenscreen, lots of activities and treats."

Some events scheduled throughout the month do require pre-registration. A full list of scheduled activities can be found on the Lambton County Library's website.
