Sting acquire hometown defenceman from Sudbury

A Sarnia native is returning home.

The Sarnia Sting have acquired hometown defenceman Joshua Hoover from the Sudbury Wolves in exchange for the Sting's 5th round pick in the 2024 OHL draft and a 7th round selection in 2023.

The 18-year-old was selected by the Wolves in the 10th round of the 2020 OHL draft and played 22 games with the Wolves during the 2021-22 season as an affiliate player.

He also spent time with the Greater Sudbury Cubs of the NOJHL.

Hoover grew up playing in the Lambton Junior Sting AAA program.

Sting General Manager Dylan Seca said Hoover will be a welcome addition to the team.

"He's a real strong defender, competitive player, and his work ethic is excellent," said Seca. "Our coaches are very familiar with him and we think he's going to round out our back end which, in our opinion, is one of the stronger ones in the league."

The Sting begin the regular season September 30 in Kitchener.
