Shell donates funds to assist local youth

Shell donated over $100,000 to help support mental health initiatives for local youth.

The Sarnia Manufacturing Centre celebrated the completion of a recent turnaround by donating $116,000 to the Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario Sarnia Lambton (YWHO Sarnia Lambton) site, formerly known as ACCESS Open Minds.

In a news release, Shell Manufacturing Centre General Manager Pauline Buitink said for the largest turnaround in the company's 70 year history they set a Goal Zero target for personal safety and injuries.

“And so, as an added incentive to our team, we committed to a $1,000 dollar donation for every ‘Goal Zero’ day during the Turnaround to raise hope for youth mental health services in Sarnia Lambton," said Buitink.

The new facility, expected to open in the new year in downtown Sarnia, will provide youth ages 11 to 25 mental health and addictions education, assessments, counselling and treatment.
