Good Samaritan helps arrest assault suspect

Sarnia police are thanking a Good Samaritan who helped an officer arrest a woman who reportedly caused a commotion.

A 30-year-old Sarnia woman allegedly punched an employee who confronted her about smoking at the entrance of a store, located on Quinn Drive.

The incident was reported at around 3 p.m. Thursday. Police said the accused then left the store but was found in the area.

An officer, who was alone at the time, tried to arrest the woman for assault but she allegedly became combative. She was eventually arrested after someone passing by stopped to help the officer.

As a result, she was charged with one count of assault and one count of resisting a peace officer. She remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police are thankful for the help provided by the unnamed Good Samaritan.

"Working together, as a community, ensures the safety and well-being of all," read the release.
