Grad students awarded conservation scholarships

Two graduating students from Northern Collegiate Institute and Vocational School in Sarnia have been selected as scholarship recipients by the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA).

Heather Scott recently received the Mary Jo Arnold Conservation Scholarship. The $500 award was established in memory of a "spirited young woman" in an effort to help other women pursue a post-secondary education within the field of conservation.

Scott will be studying architectural conservation and sustainability engineering at Carleton University.

Fellow Northern student, Clark Dunn was awarded the Tony Stranak Conservation Scholarship. The $500 award was named after the former mayor of Dresden and past SCRCA board member.

Clark plans to pursue a degree in conservation biology at Trent University.

SCRCA Chair Mike Stark presented the awards to both students.

“We are happy to provide support to these students as they pursue their post-secondary studies in the environmental field," said Stark in a statement. "Their applications were impressive and I’m confident they will play an important role in tackling current and future environmental issues both locally and beyond.”

Two Strathroy students also received scholarships.

Tesni Greig-Clarke and Kiersten Denning, both from Strathroy District Collegiate Institute in Strathroy, were awarded the 2022 A.W. Campbell Memorial Scholarships.

Both students each received $1,000.

Greig-Clarke will attend the University of Waterloo this fall to study knowledge integration through the faculty of environment and Denning will study wildlife biology and conservation at the University of Guelph.

The scholarship awards were made possible by trust funds established by the SCRA Foundation and its donors.
