A parking lot in Sarnia's Mitton Village is slated for some much needed upgrades, including the creation of a vibrant and colourful parkette for public events.
City council has accepted a tender from Sev Con Paving for just over $521,000 for the reconstruction of the municipal parking lot at 135 Mitton Street S.
Councillor Brian White, who is part of the Mitton Village Community Development Committee, is extremely excited to see the project move forward.
"This is going to be such an important attraction for residents of Mitton Village, businesses in Mitton Village and hopefully to residents from all over the city who will travel and enjoy community events and community businesses in the village by way of attending and purchasing meals and shopping and enjoying some green space."
City staff said the existing lot is severely deteriorated and at the end of its service life.
The project is very similar to upgrades that took place at the Sarnia Arena Parking Lot and Vendome Lot in 2020.
The upgrades are expected to be done sometime before the end of 2022.
