Senior Men's Championship tees off at SGCC

The Sarnia Golf and Curling Club (SGCC) is hosting some of the best amateur golfers in Ontario.

The Ontario Men's Senior Championship is on from July 25 to 27, with 135 golfers, aged 55 and older, taking part.

Head Professional Jamie Parkinson said the course is in great shape.

"Our golf course superintendent Joel Henderson and our entire grounds team here, they've been working incredibly hard all season for this event as well as for our members on a daily basis," said Parkinson. "The course is in great shape. Obviously with the record dry we've experienced in June and July, the course is dry in some of the areas that the sprinklers aren't getting to. But, the fairways, greens and tees are absolutely perfect and I know that the players are going to find it a real treat for the coming week."

Spectators are encouraged and welcome for all three days of competition.

The top finishers will qualify for the Canadian Senior Men’s Amateur Championship to be held at the Red Deer Golf & Country Club, in Red Deer, Alberta from September 6 to 9.

As a safety precaution, starting at 7 a.m. Monday, the Village of Point Edward will be closing the north and southbound lanes of Christina Street, the south side of the intersection at Michigan Avenue as well as the westbound left-turn lane of Michigan Avenue.

The northbound and southbound Christina Street, north side of intersection at Errol Road West/Lite Street, including the straight-through lanes south of the intersection will also be closed until July 27, 2022 at 4:00 p.m
