Highland Glen boat launch reconstruction expected this summer

The Town of Plympton-Wyoming hopes to have the boat launch at Highland Glen Conservation Area back up and running at some point this summer.

Chief Administrative Officer Carolyn Tripp said the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority has given the green light to hire a contractor to work on the permitting, planning, renovations and reconstruction of the ramp into Lake Huron.

"The permitting process is a little bit unknown as far as timing goes, but our hope is to have it done sometime this season, so it can be open for at least the end of the season," said Tripp.

She said the physical work can't begin until fish spawning has ended.

"We can't do any work in the water until after July 15. That's the earliest construction can start. Now, of course, the permitting process and the planning can take place before, but in water work can't happen until then."

The launch has been closed for over two years due to unsafe conditions.

Plympton-Wyoming council entered into a lease agreement with the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority in 2021 to take over management of the park.

Final approval to transfer ownership of the park to the town is still needed from the province.
