Sting defeat visiting Spirit

The Sarnia Sting humbled the visiting Saginaw Spirit 7-1 in OHL action Friday.

Angus MacDonnell (10) opened the scoring for Sarnia at the 4:23 mark of the first period assisted by Ethan Ritchie and Nolan Dillingham.

Brights Grove's Nolan Degurse (20) made it 2-0 at 6:20 of the second frame with assists going to Zach Filak and Easton Wainwright,

Less than a minute later Ty Voit (25) scored an unassisted goal.

At the 12:55 mark Max Nemestikov (16) tallied for the Sting assisted by Degurse and Voit then

Alexis Daviault scored unassisted at 15:30 on a 5-on-3 Sting power play.

Brayden Hyslop scored the lone Saginaw goal  at the 17:24 mark to end the second period.

In the third Voit (26) scored his second of the game at 4:31 assisted by Ritchie and Nolan Dann and Dann (29) would complete the scoring 38 seconds later.

The Sting's Benjamin Gaudreau stopped 29 shots while Brett Fullerton and Andrew Oke combined for 24 saves.

With the win Sarnia remains one point ahead of Erie for the final playoff spot in the OHL's Western Conference with one game remaining. The Otters upset Windsor 3-2 on Friday.

On Sunday the Sting visit London starting at 4:00 p.m. with the pregame show beginning at 3:30 p.m. on 103.9 FM - 1070 AM CHOK  and the Otters host Hamilton.
