Building permits lagging behind first quarter of 2021

Construction activity in Sarnia is lagging behind last year's pace.

City hall issued 62 building permits in March for a three month 2022 total of 129, worth just over $34.5 million, which is $19.1 million less than last year.

The largest permit last month was for $1.5 million for a dwelling at 1704 Blackwell Road.

A permit for just under $1.1 million was issued for construction of Origin Materials' first commercial production plant at Arlanxeo's Bio-Industrial Park on Vidal Street.

There were 10 permits issued for single-family dwellings in March, for a year-to-date total of 21, compared to 36 in 2021. City hall also issued 13 permits last month for swimming pools.
