Environment Canada is forecasting a very up and down spring season in Sarnia-Lambton.
Spring officially arrives on Sunday, March 20 at 11:33 a.m., signaling the end of winter.
Meteorologist Steven Flisfeder said there are conflicting models for the long-term spring forecast, but most are tending toward a generally warmer than usual season.
"There is some disagreement between one or the other, so it's not a clear story," said Flisfeder. "But, even if it does end up being that warmer than normal expectation coming to fruition, it's important to remember that doesn't mean every day will be warmer than normal. We could have big swings in temperatures, especially through the spring which is a battle between winter and summer. There could be a lot of ups and downs. If we have one big system that comes up bringing lots of moisture and warmth, in behind it typically you'd expect some cooler temperatures and strong winds along with it."
The Farmers' Almanac is predicting 85 millimetres of rain to fall locally in March, which is about 30 millimetres above average.
Typical average daytime highs through April in Sarnia-Lambton are around 11.4 C, 52 F.
That bumps up to an average of 18.3 C, 64 F in May, and 23.6 C, 73 F for June.
