Sting score 10 in wild win from the Hive

The Sarnia Sting's offence exploded for 10 goals Wednesday night in a 10-6 win over the visiting Saginaw Spirit.

Zach Filak scored three goals, including the game-winner with 3:18 left to play, and Theo Hill recorded six helpers in what tied the highest scoring game in the OHL this season -- Hamilton beat Peterborough 10-6 on November 18.

Saginaw opened the scoring just over a minute into the game and then made it 2-0 at 4:56.  Alexis Daviault got Sarnia on the board at 9:27 and Filak tied the game at 18:41, making it 2-2 after 20 minutes.

The Spirit regained a one goal lead at 5:14, but Sarnia's Ty Voit responded at 6:29 to make it 3-3.  The teams traded goals again at 10:00 and 11:25 -- Easton Wainwright scored for Sarnia.  Filak scored his second goal at 17:42, giving the Sting a 5-4 lead heading into the third period.

Saginaw tied the game two separate times in the final frame, at 8:54 then again at 14:46.  However, Sarnia would score four times in the final minutes of regulation, including two empty-net goals, to take the game 10-6.

Filak, who also had an assist in the win, was named the game's first star.

"I feel like we really honed in on it in practice and we really focused on just making tape-to-tape passes and getting quicker plays and stuff like that so we can get those scoring chances," said Filak.

Hill picked up the primary assist of Filak's game winning power play goal.

"Honestly, if I go back, I can't really -- it's a blur, all the six [assists].  But, playing with [Filak] and [Nolan Dann] has been really good, especially this morning we were shooting really well in the skate, and I just got lucky tonight," said Hill.

Dann had two goals and an assist, Wainwright tallied two goals, and four other Sting players had multi-point games.  Goaltender Ben Gaudreau made 29 saves in the win, which ended a four-game losing streak for Sarnia.

The Sting are back in action Friday when the club hosts Sault Ste. Marie at 7:05 p.m. -- coverage on CHOK (1070 AM/103.9 FM) begins at 6:30 p.m.
