The fluctuation of temperatures this winter has given Sarnia streets a beating.
The city has seen a larger than normal volume of potholes, which can result in damage to vehicles.
Sarnia Public Works Manager Tony D'Agostini said potholes are filled and repaired based on priority, tackling main roads first.
"All our roads are classified, depending on the posted speed limit and the average daily traffic on that road," said D'Agostini. "Once they do the traffic count, we're able to determine what class road."
D'Agostini said repairs being done now are temporary, and more permanent repairs will be completed during the warmer months.
"The key to a very good sound repair is dry weather," he said. "This time of year you can't go in the ground that's frozen, it's susceptible to the freeze and thaw. So, you cannot put a good foundation underneath the road. When summer hits and spring hits, we get warmer weather, we're able to do a more permanent repair."
