Sarnia man uses machete-like weapon in alleged attack

Sarnia police say a man who was attacked by a machete-like weapon Friday night suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

A 20-year-old Sarnia man is charged with assault with a weapon following the alleged attack at a home in the 100 block of Brock Street North.

Police said at around 10:10 p.m., the suspect attended the residence and was denied entry by the victim, which led to a fight. The accused then pulled a weapon from his clothing and struck the victim several times. The victim, along with another person, left the house and sought medical attention.

Police were contacted and were able to identify the suspect. At around 1:45 a.m. Saturday, police located Devin Daniel Porter and took him into custody without incident. A machete-like weapon was also seized.

Porter’s first court date is set for March 22.
