Cattle killed in Watford area fire

About 100 cattle perished Thursday morning in a fire at a Watford area dairy farm.

Warwick Station Fire Chief Brad Goodhill, said firefighters were called at around 4:30 a.m. to a structure fire at a dairy farm in the 8500 block of Egremont Road.

"The call was reported by a passerby, a truck driver, who awoke the property owners and alerted them of the fire," said Goodhill. "When we arrived the main section of the auxiliary barn was completely down, the roof was down and it was fully involved."

No injuries were reported in the blaze, and Goodhill said damage is estimated at about $1 million.

"The Fire Marshal's Office has been notified because it is a large loss value."

Goodhill said firefighters from the Watford station also attended the blaze, along with a water tanker from Arkona.

Egremont Road between Arkona Road and Kerwood Road was closed to traffic until about 10 a.m.

Lambton OPP also responded.
