Forest native eyeing gold medal in Beijing

Tyler McGregor is hoping to add a gold medal to his collection at next month's Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games.

The Forest native was one of 17 players named to Canada’s Para ice hockey roster on Tuesday. He is one of 10 returning players that won silver at the 2018 games and one of six players that won bronze in 2014.

In a media release from the Canadian Paralympic Committee, McGregor said that any chance to wear the Maple Leaf is very special.

“And it is an honour to be a part of this team and to compete for a gold medal in Beijing. We hope that any young Canadian watching our team will be inspired and see an opportunity to get in a sled on the ice and chase their dreams.”

The North Lambton Secondary grad made his national team debut at age 18 at the 2012 World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Calgary. McGregor was also named captain of Canada’s National Para Hockey Team in 2019.

Other players from the area heading to China include Essex native Zack Lavin and James Dunn of Wallacetown.
